Westminster College Offers Nine Continuing Education Classes in October

Westminster College is offering nine continuing education classes in October ranging from Scrapbooking and Yoga to various computer classes.

Microsoft Windows for Beginners is scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays Oct. 2-16, at 6 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. Instructor Nelson Boosel will help you discover the possibilities and advantages of the Windows environment and increase your computer efficiency. The class will focus on understanding, then applying commands. The basics of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications will be sampled.

Microsoft Windows for Intermediate Level students will begin Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 18-Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. Boosel will continue from the basics of navigating to include customization of Windows applications. He will teach useful shortcuts and many topics that manuals don't mention or explain in depth.

Exploring the Internet is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursday, Oct. 3 and 5 at 5:45 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. Instructor Deanne Drisko will use this course to introduce how to access the Internet, e-mail, and on-line services. This workshop gives the student an opportunity to "surf the net," while learning about home pages, and what factors to consider when choosing an on-line service.

Designing Web Pages, scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 10 and 12 and 5:45 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214, will guide its students through the process of effectively designing and assembling a Web site. Topics include writing Web documents, use of graphics, and use of Web technology. With Drisko's help, each participant will create a small Web site.

Microsoft Word for Windows - Beginning Level begins Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 17 and 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. This introductory level course is designed to teach the basics for creating, editing, formatting, and printing a document. Using the menus and toolbars, you will learn to set tabs and margins, find and replace text, and use the spell checker, grammar checker and thesaurus. Joe Ann Miller will teach this class.

Microsoft Word for Windows - Intermediate Level is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 24 and 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. This course will enhance your basic knowledge and enable production of more effective documents. Columns, graphics, tables, and mail merge are among some of the things Miller will teach.

Scrapbooking Class begins Mondays, Oct. 2 through Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Old Main 310. Instructor Denise Martone will help make memories of the new millennium by turning photographs, newspaper clippings, birth announcements, wedding invitations and more into a unique scrapbook that will be cherished for years to come. Students will be taught basic page lay-out, cropping techniques, photo journaling, and much more.

Beginning Yoga begins Mondays, Oct. 16 through Nov. 13, at 5:45 p.m. in the dance studio of Old 77. Students will learn breathing techniques to help relax and rejuvenate their bodies, proper alignment for developing skills in the form of the postures, and a sequence of postures to continue practicing at home. The class is taught by Mary Kay Griffiths.

Intermediate Yoga is scheduled Mondays, Oct. 16 through Nov. 13, at 4:15 p.m. in the dance studio of Old 77. Griffiths will expand practice with postures that develop strength, flexibility, balance and concentration.
