Westminster College will host The National Shakespeare production of Hamlet at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 26 and 27, in Beeghly Theater.

Hamlet, one of Shakespeare's most enduring and popular plays, is the story of a young many who is haunted by his father's death, his mother's remarriage, and his own inaction. The character of Hamlet continues to serve as a source of great analysis, debate, and discussion within both literary and theatrical circles.

Director Randolph Rand has decided to approach the play as if he were a member of an audience during Shakespeare's time. He believes doing so permits a contemporary audience to see the play through the lens of Elizabethan society, and brings such issues as kingship, religion, and demonology to the forefront.

The National Shakespeare Company was founded in 1963 by actress Elaine Sulka and producer/director Philip Meister. Their vision was to make classical theatre and arts education accessible to all audiences.

This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. For more information, contact the Beeghly Box Office at (724) 946-7241.
