Westminster College will celebrate Homecoming with a weekend of activities Friday-Sunday, Oct. 6-8.

The event begins Friday with campus tours featuring new construction and renovations for those alumni who want to see what's new on campus. Students and visitors will also have the opportunity to view the Student Government Association's Powder Puff Football game on the Quad or the men's soccer team game against Medaille College. A student pep rally and picnic is planned Friday evening, as well as a Citation Celebration Dinner, which honors those alumni selected by the Alumni Council in recognition of significant professional accomplishments of outstanding service to their community or Westminster. An improv group, The Have Nots, will entertain at JT's Café in the Down Under later that evening.

Saturday's activities start at 8:30 a.m. with Breakfast with the Books in McGill Library, followed by the homecoming parade at 10 a.m. and its theme floats of the parade "Saturday at the Movies." After the luncheons and picnics, the Titan football team will clash with Bethany College. Dinner and dancing for all reunion classes will be held Saturday evening.

Westminster hopes to revive an old tradition by ringing the Victory Bell in the Old Main Tower after the football game Saturday. From the early 1900s to through the mid 1970s, Titan athletic victories were celebrated by the ringing of the bell.

"I remember in 1955, I had a pre-arranged signal with a pretty Browne Hall girl," said Tom Finlay, a 1955 graduate of Westminster College. "It was late, and coeds were in "lock down" for the evening. When she heard the Victory Bell ring, she knew that I would be at her window in five minutes."

Westminster's homecoming weekend will end with worship service at 10:30 a.m. at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church.
