Noted Author and Educator to Speak at Westminster College

Dr. Ricardo L. Garcia, noted author and educator, will speak Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Dining Hall.

Garcia, who has been an educator for 36 years, will speak about "Building Community in Schools and the Classroom." His career has taken him to varied geographic and academic settings, including Indian reservations, Hispanic communities, and prisons.

He taught high school English in Northern New Mexico and Central Wisconsin before getting his doctorate at the University of Denver in 1973. Since then he has served as a university professor, department chair as well as various positions as a university administrator. He is currently a professor in Teachers College at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a storyteller for the Nebraska Humanities Council.

Among Garcia's numerous publications are three books, Teaching in a Pluralistic Society, Teaching for Diversity, and Coal Camp Days in Chicorico.
