Ashley E. Davis, a 1997 Westminster College graduate, has been named special assistant for management and administration, and took her position in the West Wing of the White House Saturday, Jan. 20.

Davis was a public relations major with a minor in political science at Westminster. "Ashley Davis was all about focus when she was here. She knew what she wanted to do, and she worked hard to gather the skills she would need," said Dr. James E. Perkins, professor of English and chair of the Department of English and Public Relations. "I believe her liberal arts background and her public relations training and experience will serve her well in her new post in the White House."

While at Westminster, Davis was active in several campus organizations including the Student Government Association, Mortar Board, Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Fresh Start Staff, and Students in Free Enterprise. She was also listed among the 1996-97 students in the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Davis served an internship in Governor Ridge's office while at Westminster, and before she graduated, was offered a position with Greenlee Partners, a Harrisburg-based public affairs company. She had been on leave from the firm while working for the Bush campaign, the Republican National Convention, and most recently the Bush Transition Team.

Davis currently reports directly to Deputy Assistant to the President Hector Irastorza, Jr., who is responsible for administration and logistics for the White House, Camp David and Air Force One.

She is a daughter of Kathy Giles, receptionist in the Pennsylvania Governor's Office, and a graduate of Kittanning High School.
