Dr. Ann E. Throckmorton, chair and associate professor of biology at Westminster College, continues Faculty Forum Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 11:45 a.m. in 311 Patterson Hall.
"I'll be talking about Global Positioning Systems, which are used to obtain information about the location of objects, and Geographic Information Systems, which is a computer based tool used to look for patterns in geographic data and for analyzing spatial relationships," said Throckmorton. "GIS is valuable to a wide range of public and private enterprises for explaining events, predicting outcomes, and planning strategies."
"It's considered to one of the most important new technologies, with the potential to revolutionize many aspects of society through increased ability to make decisions and solve problems," continued Throckmorton. "It is immensely useful in many fields, including ecology, sociology, business, political science, environmental science, and history."
Throckmorton, who has been with Westminster College since 1990, earned her undergraduate degree from Hastings College, master's from Fort Hays State University, and Ph.D. from Florida State University.
