Westminster College Sports Radio Class Welcomes Professional Speakers

Posted on Friday, September 14, 2001

A Westminster College sports radio class, taught by Dr. David Barner, associate professor of broadcast communications, welcomes other professionals into his classroom.

"Broadcasting is a business that you learn in part on the job. Hearing from the voices they recognize reinforces the material taught in the class," said Barner. "Coaches and officials give them additional technical knowledge that they can use to improve their broadcasts. "

Barner brings to the class room people like: Joe Onderko, sports information director at Westminster College, Jim Campbell, sports director of Clear Channel Radio, and Bob Greenberg, sports director at WPIC/WWIZ, as well as Westminster College coaches, Pat Cuba and Ronald Galbreath.

A special class is planned Thursday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at Beeghly Theater, when a panel of experts including, Pittsburgh sportscasters Alby Oxenreiter of WPGH FOX 53, John Steigerwald, of KDKA TV, and Myron Cope, color commentator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will answer questions.

The special class has been opened to the public. For more information, contact Barner at (724) 946-7239 or e-mail barnerdl@westminster.edu.
