The public is invited to the Buzz and Bloom Block Party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the business district along Market Street in New Wilmington.

Attendees can expect a dynamic and interactive experience with a variety of vendors and activities, including:

•    Food and goods from the local businesses
•    Craft vendors from talented local artisans
•    Music
•    Kids activities
•    Face painting
•    Hair tinsel
•    Westminster Bee Company honey and observation hive

The block party concept originated with two Westminster College senior marketing and professional sales majors, Natalie Franke of Centerville, Pa., and Thomas Bablak of Russell, Pa.

Franke and Bablak are executing this event as part of a directed study course, Marketing Research Methods, that is mentored by Dr. Robert Badowski, associate professor and chair in the School of Business.

“Our aim was to confront the perception of a disconnect between Westminster and the community, prompting the creation of this event as a means of fostering unity and collaboration,” said Franke, adding that the newly formed New Wilmington Area Business Association (NWABA) has been a key collaborator for the event.

Market Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Maple Street and East Neshannock Avenue during the block party. Parking will be available in multiple lots on Westminster College’s campus.

Vendors are still being accepted for the Buzz and Bloom Block Party. Anyone interested in showcasing their business or offerings can contact Dr. Helen Boylan, professor of environmental science and faculty fellow for community engagement, at boylahm@westminster.edu or 724-946-6293.
