Martha McGrath-Brown, instructor of sports management at Westminster College, presented research about pay equity and the U.S. women’s national team (USWNT) at the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS) Conference held in New Orleans between Nov. 1-5, 2023.

McGrath-Brown and co-author Dr. Alexia Lopes, assistant professor of business administration at the Donald J. Schneider School of Business and Economics at St. Norbert College, showcased their scholarly research, “One Nation, One Team: Discussing the USWNT Equal Pay Victory in the Classroom.”

McGrath-Brown’s presentation goal was to help colleagues and educators better understand pay equities across sports teams, leagues and conferences in women’s sports. In her presentation, she broke down content into sections that could easily be applied to the classroom.

A focal point of her presentation was the creation of a case study on the effect of sociology within the realm of sports. Topics ranged from Leadership and Marketing to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion swept the contents of her scholarly presentation.

At the conference, McGrath-Brown also participated in various sessions and round tables.

McGrath-Brown earned her undergraduate from Taylor University and her master’s from Slippery Rock University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.
