More than 100 students in grades 6-12 from several public and private schools in Lawrence, Mercer, Beaver, Butler and Cambria counties competed in National History Day at Westminster College on Thursday, March 9.
Students from the following districts and schools participated: Blackhawk, Grove City, Neshannock Township, Northern Cambria, Sharpsville, Holy Sepulcher Catholic School in Butler and Saint Kilian Parish School in Cranberry Township.
Students interpreted this year’s theme, “Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas,” by competing in categories including historical papers, documentaries, exhibits, performances, and websites.

The top four entries in each category are eligible to compete at the National History Day in Pennsylvania contest on April 22 and 23 at the University of Scranton.

NHD is a non-profit education organization based in College Park, Md. The largest NHD program is the National History Day Contest that encourages more than half a million students around the world to conduct historical research on a topic of their choice. Students enter these projects at the local and affiliate levels, with top students advancing to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park.
