A large-scale production of "My Fair Lady" is coming to Westminster College Friday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. in Orr Auditorium, as the second show in the 2001-2002 Westminster College Celebrity Series.
This grand musical is fashioned closely after George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion." It features Professor Henry Higgins, a celebrated phonetician, trying to teach a Covent Garden flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, how to speak like a lady, and grow from a raucous, sniveling guttersnipe to a lady of grace and splendor.
The songs from this romantic comedy include "On the Street Where You Live," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "Get Me to the Church On Time," and many others.
"What a pleasure to bring this Broadway equivalent production of this musical to Westminster College," said Eugene DeCaprio, director of the celebrity series at Westminster College. "Many think it's the greatest American musical of the 20th century."
Good seats are still available for this classic production. For reservations, call the Celebrity Series Box Office, (724) 946-7354.
