Kappa Delta Pi, Westminster College's international education honor society, will receive the Achieving Chapter Excellence Award (ACE) at the Kappa Delta Pi National Convocation, Nov. 10 in Orlando, Fla.

"The ACE Award was established to recognize outstanding Kappa Delta Pi chapters," said Dr. Linda P. Domanski, assistant professor of education and adviser of the student group. "This program creates a set of standards for superior chapter programs that support Kappa Delta Pi's mission. Only chapters that document achievement of the criteria at a superior level receive an ACE Award."

Attending the convocation with Domanski to receive the award and attend workshops and seminars are Kappa Delta Pi officers: Jamie Freund, former treasurer and a senior elementary major from Clairton; Cristin Kiehl, current president and senior elementary education major from Marienville; Pamala McCalmont, former president and senior elementary education major from Hickory; and Kathy Shelenberger, president-elect and junior elementary education major from New Wilmington.

Eligibility requirements for Westminster's Kappa Delta Pi restrict membership to the top 20 percent of those students seeking teacher certification. A member must be at least a second-semester sophomore and have evidence of service to children and the teaching profession.

"Our chapter hosts events of interest to education majors, including an annual interview forum, a fall colloquium, Reading is Fun week, as well as share hosting responsibilities for a multicultural author," continued Domanski. "We host various fundraisers and hold an annual senior recognition and awards banquet."
