Sara Kimbell, a sophomore music performance major from Gibsonia, recently placed third in the sophomore girl's division of a voice competition sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing in Pittsburgh.

The competition held each fall for students of teachers, who are members of the organization, provides students with an opportunity to complete vocally against other singers from the age group and college level. Students competed from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.

"Actually, there are opportunities for singers from high school through college and beyond to compete in both musical theater and classical categories," said Dr. Anne Bentz, assistant professor of music at Westminster. "Sara placed in the classical vocal music category. She is an exceptional student, talented both vocally and theatrically, as was evident in her performance."

Kimbell's winning program included "In uomini" from Casi fan tutte by Wolfgang Mozart, "Sweet Suffolk Owl" by Richard Hundley, and "Er, der herrlichst von Allen" from the Fraueliebe und Leben by Robert Schumann.

"It was nice to see what voice students from other schools were doing, and how I measured up," said Kimbell. "I was pleased with the results, and owe thanks to the music faculty at Westminster for all the wonderful work they do with their students."

Kimbell is a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Kimbell, 5015 Old Orchard Lane, Gibsonia. Kimbell, and a graduate of Mars Area High School.
