Westminster College presents "A Spring Music Festival: A Friends of Music Gala Concert" on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium at Westminster College. There will be performances from the Westminster College Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Singers and Westminster College Symphony Orchestra. The music festival is free and open to all.

Dr. Kristin Park, professor of sociology, presented a talk titled “Evaluating Culture and Discovering Boundaries: Non-Amish Perceptions of and Experiences with the Old Order Amish" on April 1, 2017 at the annual meeting of the North Central Sociological Association in Indianapolis, IN.

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation has announced 240 new Goldwater Scholars and identified 307 students as Honorable Mentions. For 30 years, Goldwater Scholarships have been awarded to thousands of undergraduates pursuing careers in STEM research. Westminster College honors students Tyler Heintz ’18 and Audrey Nickle ’18 were granted Honorable Mention status in the 2017 Goldwater Scholarship competition.

Senior Sociology major and Religion minor Charissa Mikoski presented her capstone research at the Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Sociology Symposium (NEOUSS) at the College of Wooster on April 8, 2017. Seventy-five undergraduates from over twenty-five colleges and universities presented their work in paper presentations and a research poster session.

Dr. Alison DuBois, assistant professor of early childhood education, special education, and counseling, and Dr. Molly Mistretta (of Slippery Rock University) presented at the American Counseling Association's National Conference in San Francisco, CA on March 17, 2017. Their 60 minute presentation, "When Caring Hurts: Identifying Signs of Burnout and Compassion Fatigue in Education," discussed diagnostic criteria used to assess burnout and compassion fatigue, personal factors that contribute to secondary trauma, and recommendations on prevention and resiliency strategies for educators.

Please join the Westminster College choral department, under the direction of Dr. Samuel Barbara, for a spring concert of music spanning the Renaissance era to the 21st century. All four Westminster College choirs will be represented at the concert, which will also serve as a farewell to the graduating seniors. The concert is Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel at Westminster College; free and open to all.

Westminster College alumna Abby Buckholt ’14 organized a formal dress collection for 7th and 8th grade girls at Selma Middle School in Selma, North Carolina. Abby is currently a special education teacher at Selma Middle School.
