Westminster College broadcasting students presented their senior capstone projects at the Senior Capstone Showcase on Sunday, Nov. 16, highlighting the creativity, research and production skills they developed throughout their academic careers.
The showcase featured a diverse collection of projects, including documentaries, short films and a television pilot. Presentations included:
RJ Scott of Frederick, Md., presented “Magic City: The Stories of Farrell,” a mini-documentary capturing the history of Farrell, Pa., and the voices of today. Watch here.
Jacob Rhodes of Columbiana, Ohio, and Jorden Tate of Cranberry Township, Pa., presented “Frequency Discovered: How a College Found Its Voice,” an exploration of the history of radio and broadcasting at Westminster College. Watch here.
Austin Downs of Wexford, Pa., presented “48 Hour Film Project In Retrospect,” a look at a young filmmaker’s experience competing in the Pittsburgh 48 Hour Film Project. Watch here.
Bryce Carroll of Sharon, Pa., presented “Behind the Scenes of an All-American,” a documentary of Megan Parker’s journey from student-athlete to All-American to coach. Watch here.
Ben White of Warren, Pa., presented “The Game Within the Game,” an examination of how anxiety factors into competition and the lives of student-athletes. Watch here.
Madyson Treharne of Burton, Ohio, presented “Bad Habits,” a pilot episode of a comedy television series in which a retreat for a group of nuns unfolds as if “The Hangover” met “Sister Act.”
At Westminster, the final portion of the liberal studies approach to broadcasting is a senior study/capstone course. The capstone is a course designed to provide an opportunity for students to create, evaluate and assess the strengths and limitations of their experiences and skills.
