Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information 3/14/2020

As indicated in previous emails and communications, Westminster College will continue to provide support and services for students during our online period. This email includes information for students who are residing in their permanent residence as well as those few students approved to remain on campus. In some cases, fraternity headquarters have required chapters to close. Others have not. Our on campus services extend to those few students living in fraternity houses and those with permission to live in off campus apartments in New Wilmington. Please contact Student Affairs at (724) 946-7110 with questions.

Wellness Center Services

Counseling Services and Wellness Coaching
Changes to our normal routines and the uncertainty of what lies ahead with the current COVID-19 pandemic can cause stress and anxiety. While students are away from campus and following social distancing precautions due to the coronavirus response plan, the Wellness Center will offer remote services via phone and video conferencing for students. Please check your Westminster email for a message from the counselors. Students may email the counselors directly to schedule a remote appointment.

If you experience a mental health crisis or emergency while away from campus, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Health Services
Health services will be operating on a by appointment only basis. Students approved to remain on campus may call the Wellness Center at 724-946-7927 or email baronmm@westminster.edu to be connected with nursing staff who will evaluate the best course of care for each student. COVID-19 testing is not available on site. Criteria for testing is determined by the CDC and PA Department of Health and the Wellness Center is following those guidelines. If you have traveled internationally or domestically and believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, it is imperative that you call ahead before seeking care in any medical facility. Healthcare staff must be prepared to care for you and to prevent exposures of themselves and others to the infection.

Academic Success Center – Tutoring and Academic Coaching

Please use the following steps to create and attend an online tutoring or academic coaching appointment:

  • Book a tutoring appointment using the link on D2L or on the Academic Success Center website.
  • Once you schedule an appointment, the Peer Tutor will schedule a Zoom meeting time that corresponds with the booked appointment time.
  • You will receive an email invitation for the meeting at the designated time. Join the meeting using that link.
  • Tutoring sessions will remain 45 minutes long. You must schedule an appointment at least 12 hours in advance. Please have a plan for what work or material you’d like to cover during the session.
  • Group sessions can be scheduled; you should indicate the names of the students who should be included in the session on the “notes” section of the booking page. Zoom limits group meetings with 3 or more people to 40 minutes long.
