Sociology Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Dr. Kristenne Robison, Westminster College assistant professor of sociology, will present "Who Really 'Cares'? The Implications of Hiring Policewomen to Do Women's Work on the Force" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Policymakers, scholars, and police administrators boast that one of the merits of adding women to the police department is that women bring a more feminine, supportive approach ("ethic of care") to police work.

Robison's ethnographic research of a large police department demonstrates the implications of hiring women to engage primarily in care work on the force.

Robison, who has been with Westminster since 2009, earned an undergraduate degree from Baldwin-Wallace College, master's from The Ohio State University, and master's and Ph.D. from Syracuse University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
