Westminster College Opens Seven Continuing Education Classes in November

Westminster College offers seven continuing education classes including several computer programs, German, and Yoga begining in November.

More to MS Excel is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. Instructor Kate McLaughry will teach commands and features that will create charts from a worksheet, work with formulas and functions, edit more than one worksheet at a time, protect data and convert files from other spreadsheet programs. Hands-on exercises will offer the discovery of the rich set of features Excel offers.

Pointers for MS PowerPoint is scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 7 and 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Patterson Hall 214. McLaughry will show how to create effective presentation programs and slide shows. Students will learn how to integrate text and charts from other software programs, and discover how to use customized color schemes and transitions between slides and pictures, video clips and sound bytes to covey messages in an exciting manner.

Publishing Flyers, Brochures, Newsletters is scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 28 and Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Patterson Hall 14. McLaughry will show how to create professional-looking publications using the desktop publishing program from Microsoft, MS Publisher.

Conversational German - Intermediate Level V is scheduled to begin Wed. Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Patterson Hall 112. This course expands and continues the lessons of level IV. German-born Ingrid Both-Hoesl will help students gain a broader understanding of verbs, prepositions, and more. Also included in the class will be basic facts of Germany and vocabulary useful to anyone planning to travel.

German for Children IV begins Friday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. in Patterson Hall 230. This class expands and continues the lessons of German for Children III. Students will learn more about talking with friends, asking questions, playing games, and other topics. Ms. Both-Hoesl presents this information in a fun and entertaining manner.

Beginning Yoga begins Mondays, Nov. 20 at 5:45 p.m. in the dance studio of Old 77. Students will learn breathing techniques to help relax and rejuvenate their bodies, proper alignment for developing skills in the form of the postures, and a sequence of postures to continue practicing at home. The class is taught by Mary Kay Griffiths.

Intermediate Yoga begins Mondays, Nov. 20 at 4:15 p.m. in the dance studio of Old 77. Griffiths will expand practice with postures that develop strength, flexibility, balance and concentration.
