Peyton Aujay, a senior at Westminster College, was one of six musicians awarded an opportunity by the Pittsburgh Creators’ Project for his musical talent.

Aujay, a music education and tuba performance double major from Lowber, Pa., read, rehearsed and recorded one of his compositions for wind ensemble after being chosen through a competitive peer-review process.

The musicians received a professional audio file of their recording and will be considered for a fall and spring concert series through the project.

“The Pittsburgh Creators’ Project helped me develop myself as a performer, composer and artistic individual through its concerts, recording sessions and community resources,” said Aujay.

Aujay’s piece, “Requiem for the Living,” draws inspiration from traditional movements of a Latin requiem mass. Dedicated to victims of the climate crisis, Aujay’s music conveys a feeling of somber uncertainty. The piece ends with an ambiguous chord symbolizing the unfinished action against the climate predicament.

The Pittsburgh Creators’ Project is a non-profit organization bridging various forms of local talent together for creative collaboration since 2018.

“More specifically speaking, it has offered me a lot of community connections through casual networking and has even allowed me to make connections resulting in classroom observations,” said Aujay.

Aujay is a member of Westminster’s Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and the Titan Marching Band. In addition to performing with the PCP, Aujay performed with the Indiana University of Pennsylvania summer symphony band and the Jeannette Community Band, among others. In his free time, Aujay can be found composing and performing tuba or as a vocalist around the Pittsburgh area.
