English majors present senior capstone projects

Westminster College's senior English majors presented their capstone presentations at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 13, in the Cultural Center located in McKelvey Campus Center on the College’s campus. 

Capstone presenters and titles include:

Serana Stanley of New Castle, Pa., presented “Horror Adaptations: Why Spooky Works.”

Stephen Adametz of Glenshaw Pa., presented “Untold Perspectives from America’s Gilded Era of Industry in Etna, Pennsylvania and Thomas Bell’s ‘Out of the Furnace.’”

Desirae Hairston of Youngstown, Ohio, presented “Understanding the ‘American Dream’ from the Perspective of Outsiders: Analyzing Adichie’s ‘Americanah’ and Lai’s ‘Inside Out & Back Again.’”

Keyarra Nelson of Sebring, Ohio, presented “The Purple Rainbow: The Many Versions of ‘The Color Purple.’”

Lauren Millhorn of Rogers, Ohio, presented “‘What Manner of Man is This?’: Representations of Vampiric ‘Others’ in Nineteenth-Century Literature.”

Elizabeth Sanders of Mars, Pa., presented “Female Exile in Modern American Memoirs: An Analysis of Jeanette Wall’s ‘The Glass Castle’ and Tara Westover’s ‘Educated.’”

Ryan Wasilko of Kittanning, Pa., presented “Blood and Guts: Hemoeroticism in Contemporary Manifestations of Queer Monstrosity.”

Emiley Weber of Slippery Rock, Pa., presented “Analyzing the Inner Workings of Primary and Secondary Worlds through Gaiman’s ‘Coraline.’”
