Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Hosting Education Seminars

The Westminster College Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will host a series of education clinics.  "Ethics and Accountability for School Administrators" is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. with lunch to follow in the Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Featured speakers include Dr. Blair Kucinski, former superintendent at Leechburg, and Dr. Glenn Smartchan, former superintendent at Mt. Lebanon.  Both educators are consultants to the Study Council, specializing in accountability issues related to improving teaching and learning.

The program will focus on a presentation and discussion of the changing role and expectations of school leaders in an age of accountability for student learning and the resulting ethical issues that are pressing upon schools and threatening the moral compass of educators to do the right things for students and parents.  Both speakers are highly experienced former veteran superintendents who have researched and written thoughtfully on ethics and its implications for school leaders.

Several other programs are scheduled in the coming months.  They include: Developing a High Performance School or School System dinner Nov. 23; Science Literacy lunch, Jan. 20; School Law Update lunch, March 17; and Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum dinner, April 7.

The event is sponsored by the Tri-State Area School Study Council Department of Administrative Policy Studies at the School of Education of the University of Pittsburgh in collaboration with the Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Westminster College.

All clinics offer Act 48 hours, and are open all interested parties.  For registration, contact Carol Fiumara at the Tri-State Area School Study Council at (412) 648-7185 or e-mail fuimara@pitt.edu.  Applications can also be mailed to: 4H01 Posvar Hall, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh PA  15260.
