Westminster College welcomed three new faculty members to the campus community for the 2023-24 academic year. Joining the College this fall are Dr. Andrew Bain in the School of Social Sciences, Martha McGrath-Brown in the School of Business and Dr. David Lehman in the School of Arts and Humanities.
Dr. Andrew Bain, assistant professor of criminal justice studies, holds an undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology from Southampton University. He earned his master’s in criminal justice studies and his Ph.D in criminal justice from the University of Portsmouth. Most recently he served as associate professor of criminal justice at Mount Union, where he also had been the director of criminal justice studies. His areas of interest include corrections and desistance, criminology and social theory, theories of deviance, policing and community engagement, psychology and defending, research methods, gangs and organized crime and public safety. Martha McGrath-Brown, instructor of sports management, earned her undergraduate degree in political science from Taylor University and a a master’s in sports management from Slippery Rock University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in parks, recreation and tourism management at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Before her arrival at Westminster, she was lecturer and internship coordinator at NCSU, where she was a faculty lecturer in the parks, recreation and tourism management department. She also taught classes at Belmont Abbey College as an adjunct faculty member. Her research interests include gender issues in sport, gender disparities within leadership of sport and scholarship of teaching and learning. Dr. David Lehman, assistant professor of history, earned an undergraduate degree in history and interdisciplinary studies from Goshen College. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His teaching interests include early U.S. history, American Indian history and culture, environmental studies, modern empires, race in U.S. history, world geography, modern China and public history. His research work involves using Geographic Information Systems, Potawatomi language, soil science, local histories and the Public Land Survey System to study the Great Lakes region in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
