"Music with Friends" Concert Series Opens Second Season

The Westminster College Symphonic Band will open the second season of “Music with Friends” concerts on Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Will W. Orr Auditorium at Westminster College. Joined by special guests, alumnus Matthew Newman ’01 and the Beaver Local High School Band, the two dynamic groups will perform music from composers Gustav Holst, Malcolm Arnold, Alfred Reed and more.

Westminster College Music Faculty Present Trumpet and Piano Recital

Dr. Timothy Winfield and Dr. Nancy DeSalvo will present their trumpet and piano recital, “Musical Shorts and Landscapes,” on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel at Westminster College. The recital is free and open to the public.

Dr. R. Tad Greig Spreading Music Throughout the Region

Dr. R. Tad Greig, director of instrumental activities and professor of music at Westminster College, is busy making music throughout the area during the first couple weeks of January. On Thursday, Jan. 4, Dr. Greig is guest conducting the Lawrence County All-Star Band, a collection of the top instrumentalists from the eight area high schools, at Westminster at 7 p.m. This is a one-day event, featuring both a junior high honors band and a senior high honors band.

Dr. R. Tad Greig Leads Clinics for Local Public School Music Programs

Dr. R. Tad Greig continues to be very active as a clinician in local public school music programs. On October 17, Dr. Greig visited Beaver Area High School where he provided a clinic for the high school and middle school bands—both instructed by alumnus J.P. Scanga. In addition to numerous guest conducting engagements and adjudicating at music assessment festivals, Dr. Greig commonly does four or five clinics per year.

Music Professor's Composition Aired on Public Radio

Dr. Daniel Perttu's recent composition, "To Spring - An Overture," was aired on WCNY, the public radio station based in Syracuse, Utica, and Watertown, NY. Perttu is an associate professor of music, and currently serves as chair of the Westminster's School of Music.

Westminster Wind Ensemble Earns Distinction from Collegiate Band Directors National Association

The Westminster College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, earned another distinction with the Collegiate Band Directors National Association. After their submission was peer-reviewed by the leadership of the Eastern Region, the Westminster College Wind Ensemble was selected as a top small college ensemble in the East. As a result, Greig will travel to Yale University for the CBDNA Conference and present a session related to the beginnning of the emsemble and its many successes over the years.
