Jazz Ensemble to Host Spring Concert, April 19

Westminster College’s Department of Music will host their spring jazz ensemble concert, 3 p.m., April 19 in Berlin Student Lounge, McKelvey Campus Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

“This is an exciting concert, featuring the best jazz musicians at Westminster College,” shares Timothy Winfield, assistant professor of music. “It is truly a joy to work with the musicians of the Jazz Ensemble - I am inspired by their creativity, musicality, and dedication, day in and day out.

The concert will feature the student ensemble and soloists within the ensemble. Repertoire, ranging from classic swing charts, to modern funk and pop-inspired charts, to be performed include: The Chicken by Alfred James Ellis, Feels So Good by Chuck Mangione, Moments Notice by John Coltrane, Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me by Duke Ellington, Manteca by Dizzy Gillespie, The Queen Bee by Sammy Nestico, and Norwegian Wood by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Benjamin Grove, a junior music education major, is a son of Phillip and Amy Grove and a graduate of Highlands High School. He plays piano in the ensemble.

Kendall Williams, a junior communication studies major, is a son of Kenny and Kimberly Williams and a graduate of New Brighton High School. He plays guitar in the ensemble.

Tristan Toca, a first year biology major, is a son of Christine and Angel Toca and a graduate of Neshannock High School. He plays tenor saxophone in the ensemble.

Matthew Younger, a sophomore music education major, is a son of Elmer & Laura Younger and a graduate of New Castle High School. He plays trombone in the ensemble.

Joshua Thomas, a sophomore music major, is a son of Kimberly Adams and a graduate of Shenango High School. He plays French horn in the ensemble.

Rob Poling, a senior business administration major, is a son of Robert and Jayne Poling and a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School. He plays tenor saxophone and auxiliary percussion in the ensemble.

Angela Renninger, a first year music education major, is a daughter of Timothy and Kristina Renninger and a graduate of Youngsville High School. She plays baritone saxophone in the ensemble.
