The Academic Success Center, located on the fourth floor of Thompson Clark Hall, is committed to helping all Westminster students realize their academic potential. Our center provides individual and group tutoring, writing support, peer success coaching, guidance for exploratory majors and general academic advising. The center is guided by an advisory board made up of faculty and administrators.
Our Peer Tutoring Services offer academic support in a variety of settings. Students can drop in to the center for peer tutoring Sunday through Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. Or you can make one-on-one appointments with Peer Tutors who have expertise in a specific subject at your convenience using the “Book Appointment” button above.
Additionally, our Peer Success Coach Program provides one-on-one support for first-year students through Orientation and in Westminster 101, a required first year transition course taken in the fall semester. Peer Success Coaches help first year students identify barriers to academic success, develop individualized short- and long-term goals, share strategies for success related to issues like time management and study skills, and they connect students to resources on campus.
Academic Success Center Peer Tutors are a select group of Westminster College students who foster improved academic performance. Working one-on-one and in small groups with fellow students, Peer Tutors support – but don’t replace – lecture, lab and office hours by assisting with homework, projects and assignments. Peer Tutors also empower their peers by teaching them academic skills and strategies that will allow them to gain independence as a learner.

Peer Success Coaches at Westminster College work in conjunction with the Academic Success Center, the First Year Program and the Office of Student Affairs in order to help students adjust to the rigors of college life and to maximize their potential for academic success.
Working through Westminster 101 classes and in one-on-one meetings, the Peer Success Coaches collaborate with students to identify barriers to academic success and to develop individualized short- and long-term goals that will help them overcome those challenges. Further, Peer Success Coaches share strategies for success related to issues like time management, study skills, and exam preparation, and they also connect students to campus resources like faculty members, advisors, tutors and counselors.
If you’re not in a Westminster 101 class, but believe you would benefit from the kind of support and accountability that Peer Success Coaches offer, help is still available! Contact Jessica Shelenberger at shelenjp@westminster.edu or at (724) 946-6700 to schedule an appointment.
