Virtually speaking: Faculty member presents at BEA convention

Brad Weaver, lecturer of broadcast communication in Westminster College’s School of Communication, was a virtual panel presenter for the 2020 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Annual Convention held April 17-24.

Originally scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, the conference—themed “Foresight is 2020: Reimagining Media—moved to a virtual format in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Instead of traveling to Las Vegas, I was able to attend and present from my home basement office between my live virtual class sessions and workshops,” Weaver said.

Weaver, participating in the Small College/Two-Year College Student Production Showcase, presented “Extreme Experiential Learning Makeover: The Titan Music Video Challenge.” He also attended several live sessions, including “Teaching in the COVID1-9 World” and “Personal Reflective Video Storytelling with Students.”

Weaver joined the Westminster faculty in 2000. He received a bachelor's degree from Alderson-Broaddus University, a master of science degree from the University of Kansas and a master of education degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

The BEA is the premiere international academic media organization for educators, students and professionals. The annual convention typically produces more than 250 sessions on practice, theory and research, collaborative networking events and hands-on training workshops. It is held in Las Vegas each April.
