Broadcasting students take home 2nd place awards

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) named Westminster College Titan Radio and WCN students second-place winners of the 2019 CBI National Student Production Awards for Best Podcast and Best Feature News Reporting (Audio).

The May 2019 edition of the Mother Fair podcast won second place in the best podcast category. The episode previewed the College’s upcoming Mock Convention, profiled a senior comedian and bodybuilder, visited a Westminster graduate now working at Youngstown’s WFMJ-21 News and talked Titan baseball and football.

Samuel Craig ’21 and Jaclyn Bleggi ’20 produced this edition of the podcast. Katarina Braun ’19 and Goldieann McElwain ’21 hosted with additional production and writing support from Hayley McGuigan ’21, Sydney Roach ’21 and Rachael Angermeier ’20. Reporters included Jack Karson ’22, Ian Ross ’20, Walter Eugene ’20, Nikya Beckwith ’22 and Garvey Biggers ’22.

Karson’s “Profile of a TV News Chief Photographer” won second place in the best feature news reporting (audio) category. The segment visited a Westminster graduate now working at WFMJ-21 News to learn how social media and the internet have changed the jobs of news managers.

CBI award winners were announced at the 2019 National Student Electronic Media Convention Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in St. Louis.
