Westminster Symphony Orchestra, Butler High School musicians present Halloween Concert

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. The Westminster College School of Music and the Westminster College Symphony Orchestra will present a Halloween Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Will W. Orr Auditorium on Westminster’s campus.

Under the direction of Dr. Melinda H. Crawford Perttu, the concert will feature Sibelius’ Valse Triste, Gounod’s Funeral March of a Marionette, Schubert’s Overture to “Des Teufels Lustschloss” and Smetana’s Blaník from “Ma Vlast.”

Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, Williams’ The Magic of Harry Potter and Schwartz’ Highlights from “Wicked” will also be performed in collaboration with the Butler High School Orchestra and under the direction of Katherine Vercek Black.

Crawford Perttu, director of the symphony orchestra and associate professor of music, joined the Westminster faculty in 2011. She earned her undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and her master’s and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
