In an effort to enhance their revenue generation skills, students in the Sports Management 110 course supported the American Cancer Society through the sale of pink thundersticks at home athletic events during the fall 2021 semester.

Whether it was regular season events or the Presidents’ Athletic Conference post-season championships, pink sticks added to the Titans’ home atmosphere for a worthy cause while helping students in the Sports Management major enhance their prospecting, product knowledge, approaching and closing skills.

The students donated $1,032.81 to the American Cancer Society and enjoyed weekly classroom banter over which group was the best sellers. The team of first-year students Ahreon Wharton of Huntersville, N.C., and Tavarus Brown, of Alexandria, Va., edged out the team of Deondre McKeever, a junior from Youngstown, Ohio, and Terry Miller, a first-year from Titusville, Fla., for top sales team in the course.

The experiential learning component continues to be a core of the Sports Management major. Students have  previously helped the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County by hosting the campus Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event.

The Sports Management major is quickly growing in popularity due to the program’s dedicated approach to off-campus partnerships as well as the business-emphasis of the curriculum, the experiential learning opportunities and the career readiness emphasis.
