Thanks to the Career Center, I learned of the opportunity to attend a student leadership conference in downtown Pittsburgh sponsored by Grossman, Yanak, & Ford. While attending the conference, the accounting firm referenced possible internship opportunities for the summer of 2017. I was so excited to hear of the opportunity in the accounting firm and shortly had my interview scheduled. I am thrilled to announce that I was offered and I accepted the position as an intern for Grossman, Yanak, and Ford next summer.
Throughout my college career I have constantly been told to utilize the resources that I have, and not to be afraid to ask for help. The career center has been one of the easiest of these tools to take advantage of, and is filled with some of the friendliest, most helpful, and dedicated individuals on our campus; who always impress by exceeding expectations. I know that, without the career center's guidance, I would not be nearly as prepared for my future as I am today.
I attribute a lot of my success during and after college to the guidance given to me through our Career Center at Westminster. They helped me to craft my cover letter, draft my resume, and provided me with direction to hone in on the skills that set me apart from my competition. The three internships I had during college, and the two positions I have held within my field after, go to show how wonderful they are at not only their job, but mentoring the students they serve.
Perhaps my favorite part about Westminster's Career Center is simply how personal they take every students situation. Whether I was working on my resume, searching for jobs, networking, or finally accepting my job offer, I was always able to have a great conversation with anybody on their wonderful staff and walk away having learned something. If you are willing to put the work into being successful, they will be with you every step of the way.
Working with the wonderful women in the career center was instrumental throughout all four years of my Westminster education. Starting with my freshman year, I began to work on keeping my resume up to date which made applications that much easier when senior year came around. Beyond resume help, I ran through practice interviews that definitely helped me in my medical school interview process! Spending time in the career center from freshman to senior was well worth it and the help I received from everyone there was invaluable.
The Career Center at Westminster is an invaluable resource for students. Its resources such as resume critiquing and networking events, not only benefitted me during, but after I graduated from Westminster. I can truly say that without its dedicated staff, I would not be where I am today.
