Sacred Music Major

The Sacred Music major, under the professional Bachelor of Music degree, is offered to students whose major instrument is organ or voice. This program prepares students for careers as full-time ministers of music, full-time church organists, or full-time church choir directors. The department’s standards for acceptance into the Sacred Music major include an audition, at which time the student must exhibit exceptional musical and technical competency and possess the determination and commitment to pursue the intense study of music and liturgy outlined. The choice of repertory should reflect an appreciation of sacred music and the promise of achieving the technical ability necessary to conduct and perform it. The major prescribes a minimum of 96 semester hours in music courses.
