The Westminster College Wind Ensemble will perform a concert Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

"The Young Conductors' are instrumental majors who will be entering their student teaching experience in the spring. They will conduct the first half of the concert," said R. Tad Greig, director of bands at Westminster College. "Throughout the course of our undergraduate training, we want to provide as much actual experience as possible, along with theoretical understanding. The four student conductors have been provided time within rehearsal to introduce, rehearse, and make necessary corrections to their specific pieces, thus providing an essential teaching experience to their professional education preparation."

Directing the first half of the concert are seniors Jennifer Braden, Chris Dearbeck, Katherine Miller, and John Westcott.

Greig will conduct the second half of the concert, which will include "Tribute" by Camphouse, who was commissioned by the U.S. Army Band and dedicated to all the women who have served their country in the Armed Services. The program also includes "Dies Natalis" by Hanson, and "Be Glad Then, America" by Schuman.

The Wind Ensemble, which is chosen by audition, is a band based on the smallest instrumentation to fulfill all parts in a band score, usually 38 to 40 musicians. This group was selected from over 150 musical ensembles to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association state convention in April.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Greig at (724) 946-7279 or e-mail greigrt@westminster.edu.
