Posted on Friday, November 21, 2003

Singer and songwriter Don McLean will perform his Christmas show Saturday, Dec. 13, at 8 p.m. in Westminster College's Orr Auditorium.

"Even though this is a Christmas show, fans can expect to hear his classic hit American Pie,'" said Gene DeCaprio, director of the Westminster College Celebrity Series. "This show will feature many of his great hits, and holiday music."

McClean has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best Album, Best Song, Best Record, and Best Pop Performance. Other famous McLean hits include "Starry, Starry Night," "Crying," "Since I Don't Have You," "And I Love You So," and "Castles in the Air."

"American Pie" has been rated by The Recording Industry Association of American as one of the five greatest songs of the 20th century. When McLean was asked recently if he ever got tired of singing this hit, he responded, "I have always sung American Pie' for my audience and would never thing of disappointing them since it is they who have given me a wonderful life and untold affection for 30 years."

A limited number of tickets are available. For ticket information, contact Connie McGinnis, assistant director of the Celebrity Series, at (724) 946-7354 or e-mail mcginncl@westminster.edu.
