Mardi Gras Coming to Westminster College Feb. 10

Mardi Gras is coming to Westminster College Friday, Feb. 10, from 6-8 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

 This family-oriented event features carnival booths, caricaturists, henna artists, mask decoration and beads from the Mardi Gras royalty.  The caricature and henna tattoo artists will be available from 6-8 p.m. for the community members and will cost $2; Westminster students can get caricatures and henna tattoos for $1 from 8-9:30 p.m.  All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity and the Katrina house Westminster students will build in the spring.  At 10 p.m., Bronson Hewitt open for the local band, Springhill, in the Berlin Lounge.

 The king and queen of this year's Mardi Gras will be elected by an all campus vote.  The candidates, who represent each organization participating in the Mardi Gras, are as follows:

Aliquippa, PA
 Barry Unis is a son of Ron and Maria Unis.   Unis, a sophomore psychology major, is a graduate of Hopewell High School.

Wexford, PA
 Valerie Kokai is a daughter of John and Linda Kokai.   Kokai, a senior chemistry major, is a graduate of North Allegheny High School.
 Heather Storm is a daughter of Karen and John Storm.   Storm, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of North Allegheny High School.

Pittsburgh, PA
 Kathryn Huber is a daughter of James and Phyllis Huber.    Huber, a senior individual interdisciplinary major, is a graduate of North Allegheny High School.
Michael Spicuzza is a son of Douglas and Donna Spicuzza.    Spicuzza, a junior elementary education major, is a graduate of North Hills High School.

Hickory, PA
 Mark Amaismeier is a son of James and Pauline Amaismeier.   Amaismeier, a sophomore physics major, is a graduate of Avella Area High School.

Venetia, PA
 Michael Wolenski is a son of Thomas Wolenski and Carol Oliver.   Wolenski, a junior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Peters Township High School.

Grove City, PA
 Aaron Bruck is a son of David and Eva Bruck.    Bruck, a senior chemistry major, is a graduate of Grove City Area High School.

Youngstown, OH
 Nikky Douglas is a daughter of Digna and Huley Forest, III.   Douglas, a senior music and Spanish major, is a graduate of The Rayen School.

Mount Pleasant, IA
 Jeremy Lawler is a son of Mathew and Jean Lawler.   Lawler, a sophomore public relations major, is a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School.

Fredericksburg, VA
 Jessica Nix is a daughter of William and Jacqueline Nix.   Nix, a junior biology major, is a graduate of Massaponax High School.

 The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and the Campus Programming Committee.
