Westminster College Offers Spring Continuing Education Classes

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College announces several personal enrichment and leisure courses for community residents. 

Eight personal enrichment and exercise classes are included this semester:

Getting to Know Your Computer is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 24, 25 and 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Hoyt Science Center, room 290. This introductory class will cover terminology, using the mouse, and Windows 2007, while touching on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and the Internet.

Microsoft Word 2010 is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 10, 11 and 12, from 5:30-8 p.m. in Hoyt Science Center, room 290.  This class is for students who have some computer experience with typing and using the mouse.  Participants will learn the Microsoft Word 2010 version while referring to an earlier version of the program.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2010 is scheduled for Mondays, April 7, 14 and 21, from 5:30-8 p.m. in Hoyt Science Center, room 290.  This introductory class covers formatting, terminology, and how to use auto sum.  

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, March 26 and 27, from 5:30-8 p.m. in Hoyt Science Center, room 290. Learn to use information from the Internet on your presentations and to insert, crop and format pictures.

Personal fitness classes are scheduled in three sessions:  Session A starts Feb. 10 and runs through March 7; session B runs from March 10 through April 4; session C runs from April 7 through May 2; and session D runs from May 6 through May 30. Classes are held in the dance studio in Old 77.

Hatha Yoga classes run all four sessions on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  Participants learn how to improve their strength, balance, respiration, and fitness level by stretching and strengthening muscles, joints, and spine.  Participants should bring a yoga mat. A yoga strap and yoga blocks are optional.

Prop-Based Yoga classes run all four sessions on Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. This style of yoga uses props such as blocks and straps to aid in achieving alignment and stability in each pose.

Cardio/Strength Blast classes run during sessions A, B and C on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. This class is designed for various fitness levels from low to high. Your cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility will be utilized to burn calories and get fit. Light weight dumbbells are recommended but not required.

Zumba© classes run all four sessions on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This class combines targeted body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work with Latin-infused Zumba moves to create a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness-party.

Continuing Education classes and seminars are non-credit and are open to all interested individuals.  Formal admission to Westminster College is not required.
