Westminster College Students Awarded Scholarships from The Pittsburgh Foundation

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Ten Westminster College students recently received scholarships through The Pittsburgh Foundation. All awards will be applied to the students' tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Freshman history and mathematics major Andrew Henley received a $500 award funded by the Jack Butz Humanitarian Scholarship Fund. He is a son of Mary Ann Henley and John Henley of Edinburg and a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.

Freshman business administration major Hannah Kappel received a $2,996 award funded by the Abigail Noble Scholarship Fund.  She is a daughter of John and Lois Kappel of Ligonier and a graduate of Ligonier Valley High School.

Freshman music education major Rachel Read received the first payment of a $15,108 award funded by the Emery C. Toth Jr. Scholarship Trust.  She is a daughter of Robert and Ruth Read of Harrison City and a graduate of Penn-Trafford High School.

Freshman psychology major Dylan Black received a $550 award funded by the Katherine and Emma Uhlinger Trust Fund. He is a son of Charles and Kerry Black of Cheswick and a graduate of Springdale High School.

Four students each received a $3,090 scholarship from the Ann M. Kendlehart Scholarship Fund:

Sarah Arena, a junior business administration major, is a daughter of Joseph and Tamorah Jovenall and Robert Arena, Sharon, and a graduate of West Middlesex Area High School.

Alexandria Ott, a senior accounting major, is a daughter of Timothy and Chrystal Ott of Quincy, Ill., and a graduate of Bethel Park High School.

Julie Powell, a junior accounting major, is a daughter of Gary and Susan Powell of Meadville and a graduate of Meadville Area High School.

Rebecca Tomson, a junior business administration and English major, is a daughter of Susan Tomson of Grove City and a graduate of Lakeview High School.

Two students received awards from the William J. Wolf Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Kristin Hughes, a freshman business administration major, received the first payment of an $18,000 four-year scholarship.  She is a daughter of the late Joyce F. Hughes of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Montour High School.

Sarah Mohn, a senior psychology major, received the final payment of a $12,000 four-year scholarship.  She is a daughter of Sherri Mohn of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation for their scholarship funds. Through these funds, Westminster students have been given the freedom of obtaining a solid liberal arts education, without the distraction of financial burden," said Grady B. Jones, Westminster's vice president for institutional advancement. "Not only do these funds directly impact these bright and motivated students, but also the community, as these students will graduate and continue the Westminster tradition of moral and ethical commitments to neighbor, society, and responsible service as world citizens."
