Service Fraternity to Host "Locks of Love" Event April 19

Posted on Monday, April 11, 2011

Alpha Phi Omega, Westminster College's coed service fraternity, will host a Locks of Love event Tuesday, April 19, from 3-7 p.m. in the Berlin Lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Professional hairdressers will cut hair donations. A donation of at least 10 inches of hair will make a full wig for a child suffering from hair loss due to illness or medical conditions.  Shorter donations will be accepted and sold to offset wig manufacturing costs.  Last year's Westminster event resulted in 31 hair donations totaling 301 inches.

Hair must be clean, dry, and unbleached.

In addition to hair donations, Alpha Phi Omega will accept monetary contributions for Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organization.

Hair donors will receive a heart pin.  Additional pins will be available for purchase ($1 each) April 11-19 in the TUB of the McKelvey Campus Center and at the event.

Alpha Phi Omega is a national coed service fraternity dedicated to leadership, friendship, and service.  Members are required to provide a minimum of 12 hours of service each semester.  The Westminster chapter's projects include Haunted Bio Trail, on-campus trash clean-up, One Warm Coat drive, and visiting local nursing homes.

Contact Lizz Ward, event coordinator, at wardea@westminster.edu for additional information.
