Computer Science Professor Presented at National Conference

Posted on Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Dr. Terri Lenox, Westminster College associate professor of computer science, presented a co-authored paper at the 29th annual Information Systems Educators Conference (ISECON) Oct. 28-31 in Nashville.

Co-author of the paper is Dr. Lenox's sister, Paula Lenox, a 1987 Westminster graduate who is the high school librarian/media specialist in the Laurel School District, New Castle, and a doctoral candidate in instructional technology at Duquesne University.

The paper, "Directions in Web 2.0 Research," focused on open questions about using Web 2.0 technologies: Can Web 2.0 tools help students learn better? If so, which ones? How does faculty evaluate new kinds of Internet publications instead of peer-reviewed journal articles?

"We decided to work together on this paper after a number of discussions we had about how K-12 technology use differs from collegiate technology use," Dr. Lenox said. "For me, the most fun is doing research with a colleague, whether they're a student, another faculty member, my husband, or my sister. We both had a great time and have plans for a follow-up study and paper."

Dr. Lenox, who serves as chair of Westminster's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, joined the faculty in 1999. She earned an undergraduate degree from Grove City College and master's and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
