Mathematics Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Thursday, September 16, 2010

Dr. David Offner, Wesmtinster College assistant professor of mathematics, will speak at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

In the last few decades, increasingly fast computers have enabled humans to study more powerfully and theorize about large social, physical, and data networks. This has led to the development of exciting new mathematical questions, part of Offner's research.

His presentation, "How to Paint a Cube," will examine graph coloring problems and a particular theorem on coloring hypercubes.

Offner, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2009, earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.

Contact Offner at (724) 946-7293 or e-mail offnerde@westminster.edu for additional information.
