Psychology Professor to Open Fall Semester Faculty Forum

Posted on Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Dr. Kirk Lunnen, Westminster College associate professor of psychology, will open the fall semester Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Lunnen's presentation, "No Pain, No Gain: Pain Sensitivity and Injury Anxiety as Predictors of Athletic Success," will review a series of collaborative research studies between pain and athletic ability/performance. The discussion will include the potential impact of injury anxiety on athletes' performance.

Lunnen, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2002, earned an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and master's and Ph.D. from Ohio University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Contact Lunnen at (724) 946-7203 or e-mail lunnenkm@westminster.edu for additional information.
