Music Professor's Composition Performed in California

Rhapsody, a composition for clarinet, violin, and piano written by Dr. Daniel Perttu, Westminster College assistant professor of music theory and composition, was performed Nov. 8 at the Bakersfield Symphony New Directions concert in Bakersfield, Calif.

The composition was selected from a national application pool in a competitive peer-review process by Bakersfield Symphony personnel.

The New Directions concerts represent composers from across the United States. They are performed several times annually under the auspices of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra.

Perttu, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2008, is the music theory program coordinator. He earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, two masters from Kent State University, and doctorate from Ohio State University. His compositions have been performed nationally and internationally in arts festivals, concerts, conferences, and solo recitals. His peer-reviewed articles have been published in three journals.
