Westminster College to Host Children's Author for Math Workshop

Westminster College will host children's author Greg Tang for a math workshop Thursday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in the Witherspoon Maple Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Tang is the author of The Grapes of Math; Math for All Seasons; The Best of Times; Math Appeal; Math-terpieces; Math Fables; Math Potatoes; and Math Fables Too. The one-hour workshop will explore a commonsense approach to numbers based in simple grouping strategies that develops good number sense and strong computational and problem-solving skills. Math will be integrated with literature and art to address multiple learning styles and communicate more effectively to students. The goal of this session is to re-energize and inspire.

The workshop, sponsored by Westminster's Department of Education with support from Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested by Monday, March 23, as space is limited to 200 guests. A certificate of attendance will be provided.
