Westminster College Math Students Present Research

Four Westminster College students recently presented their papers at the ninth annual regional Student Paper Meeting hosted by the Ohio XI Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon at Youngstown State University.

The students were accompanied by Westminster mathematics professors, Drs. Carolyn Cuff, Barbara Faires, Warren Hickman, and Pam Richardson.

The meeting's purpose was to give undergraduate students the opportunity to present results of their projects and research, and to listen to the topics that were of interest to other undergraduate mathematics students in the area. Topics included problems in the history of mathematics, calculus, probability, and statistics, and presentation of work on the recent Modeling Contest in Mathematics

The following students presented their research at the meeting:

Gibsonia, PA
Bryan Bischof is a son of Steve Salvatora and Diana Salvatora, New Kensington. Bischof, a junior mathematics major, is a graduate of Valley High School. Bischof was involved with two research projects: "Infinite Composite Images of Non-Constant Polynomials" with Andrew Periello, a Pennsylvania State University student, and spoke on his solution to the modeling contest problem with James Bryan, a Westminster College student.

Greensburg, PA
James Bryan
is a son of Leigh Bryan-Taylor and James Bryan, Greensburg. Bryan, a sophomore mathematics major, is a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School. Bryan presented his work with Bischof on the modeling contest problem.

Pittsburgh, PA
Courtney Gilmore
is a daughter of Robert and Marsha Gilmore. Gilmore, a senior mathematics major, is a graduate of Brentwood High School. Gilmore presented her research on "Moving Out: Modeling Population Migration Using Linear Algebra."
Michael Henninger is a son of Paul and Edna M. Henninger. Henninger, a senior mathematics major, is a graduate of Brentwood High School. Henninger presented his research on "There's Still Time to Change the Road You're On."

Anthony Colwell
is a son of David Colwell and Antonette Colwell, Pittsburgh. Colwell, a junior mathematics and philosophy major, is a graduate of Central Catholic High School.

Bear Lake, PA
Amy Perkins
is a daughter of Dennis Perkins and Diane Perkins, Pittsfield. Perkins, a senior mathematics major, is a graduate of Youngsville High School.

Glenshaw, PA
Nicole Panza
is a daughter of Nancy Panza and Louis Panza, Eighty Four. Panza, a senior mathematics major, is a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Verona, PA
Anna Maria Sparacino
is a daughter of Christopher and Sharon Sparacino. Sparacino, a senior mathematics major, is a graduate of Saint Joseph High School.

Kane, PA
Allison Rook
is a daughter of John and Marianne T. Rook. Rook, a senior mathematics major, is a graduate of Kane Area High School.
