Eleven local schools will participate in the Instrumental Adjudication Festival on Wednesday, March 7 from 9 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. at the Westminster College Orr Auditorium.

Participants include Wilmington High School Band, Greenville High School Band, Greenville Junior High School Band, General McLane High School Band, Quaker Valley High School Band, Quaker Valley String Orchestra, Shenango High School Band, Mohawk High School Band, Hampton High School Freshman Band, Hampton High School String Orchestra, and Hampton High School Band.

Gary Taylor, the Wilmington High School band director is the host of this year's event, and Dr. R. Tad Greig, Westminster College director of instrumental activities and one of the three adjudicators for this event.

"Each band is on stage for about 45 minutes and plays two prepared pieces of the director's choice," Taylor said. "The adjudicators have a tape player that will tape a piece in the background while they make comments on the performance. Then the band will be given a number that they have never seen before and are asked to play it. The sight-reading judge then makes his or her comments about that number."

The event is free and open to the public. Contact Taylor at (724) 654-8866 ext. 1059 for more information.
