Professors to Discuss Current & Past Military Procurement Problems

Posted on Monday, February 19, 2007

Westminster College's Dr. Timothy Cuff, assistant professor of history, and Dr. Angela Lahr, visiting assistant professor of history, will present "Lame Horses, Cracked Engine Blocks, and $600 Toilet Seats: Two Hundred Years of Supplying the U.S. Military" Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1:30 p.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Lahr and Cuff will discuss the history of U.S. military procurement, the inherent difficulties in a system which relies on economic markets to provide the military with needed equipment, and examples of the fraud and abuse which have characterized military provisioning throughout history.

"This discussion will provide context for the problems noted in Arthur Miller's play, All My Sons and, we hope, enhance the viewer's experience with our production," said Dr. Scott Mackenzie, Westminster assistant professor of theatre who recently returned from a year of duty as an Army Reserve officer in Baghdad. "I encourage the audience members to attend Theatre Westminster's production of All My Sons, which follows Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Beeghly."
