Westminster College will welcome the class of 2010 with the traditional Opening Convocation Friday, Aug. 25, at 1:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

Approximately 340 new students will be greeted by nearly 80 Fresh Start upperclassmen, wearing tie-dye shirts. The Fresh Start staff and volunteers from the football team will help the new students unload personal items into the residence halls.

After unpacking is completed and lunch is served, the class of 2010 and their parents are invited to attend the Opening Convocation ceremony. They will receive greetings from President R. Thomas Williamson, Dr. Jesse T. Mann, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, the Rev. James R. Mohr II, college chaplain, and Matthew V. Kerns, student government president and senior history major from Kingston. Dr. Scott A Mackenzie, assistant professor of theatre who has recently returned from serving in Iraq, will deliver the address, "Once and Future." Special music will be presented by the Westminster College Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig and organist Kathryn D. Miller will provide processional and recessional music. Nikky L. Douglas, senior music major from Youngstown, Ohio, will lead the Alma Mater.

After a special president's reception, the parents and first-year students will say their goodbyes. When the parents depart, the new students will be divided among the volunteers, who will serve as group leaders for the next week.
