Curtain Up, a new form for musical theater which features the classic music of George and Ira Gershwin, premieres Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

George Kaufman's script for Curtain Up is a satire about a war waged by the U.S. against Switzerland over cheese tariffs at the prodding of a dairy tycoon who agrees to finance the war if they name it after him.  The music features Gershwin's "Strike Up the Band," "I've Got a Crush on You," and "The Man I Love."

Curtain Up will fade the winder blues, as it fills the room with singers and dancers performing in front of a large band in a colorful framed setting.

"It's a musical, but a new concert version of musical that's all the rage in New York City," said Connie McGinnis, assistant director of the Celebrity Series.

"The show originated in the Encore Series at Lincoln Center in New York City," said Gene DeCaprio, director of the Celebrity Series.  "It's now on a brief tour of America."
