Westminster College Artist in Residence to Give Vocal Recital

Posted on Thursday, January 24, 2002

Susan Shafer, artist in residence at Westminster College, will give a recital Sunday, Feb. 3,  at 3 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

Shafer is one of the leading Mezzo-Contraltos singing today.  She is active performing operas with well-known companies and collegues, singing as soloist with world famous orchestras, and giving recitals of literature often neglected.

Shafer's program includes "Gypsy Songs" by Antonin Dvorak, "From Funf Lieder" by E.W. Krongold, "A Group of Loreley Songs" by Silcher, Dorumsgaard and Liszt, "Waldesgespraech" by Schumann, and La Belle Dame Sans Merci by Stanford.

This performance is her second with fellow student at The Juilliard School, Russell Miller, who is currently head of the Accompanying Department at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.

Providing commentary on the recital is Dr. Fritz Horn, professor of English at Westminster College.

"Fritz provided commentary on our last recital," said Shafer.  "It had such a positive response, we decided to do it again."
