Sandi Patty to Sing at Westminster College

Posted on Friday, October 11, 2002

Five-time Grammy award winner Sandi Patty will sing at Westminster College, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

"In the Name of the Lord," "We Shall Behold Him," "Make His Praise Glorious," and "Via Dolorosa," are only a few of the songs to expect in her repertoire. Patty has built her career on hit songs and top-selling records, but the best place to experience her extraordinary vocal gift is live on the concert stage. After 20 years of singing Christian music, there is no doubt that she was put on earth to sing.

"I grew up in the church," said Patty. "The hymns are just part of my heritage and a way to integrate where I came from."

"There seems to be three songs that everybody's clinging to right now - "The Star Spangled Banner," "Amazing Grace," and "God Bless America," said Patty. "I feel very blessed to be alive today, so lately I usually do some patriotic songs. I think people are looking for some comfort, and there are no words. Music is one of those things that gives us hope, and a voice that gives solace."

Patty has garnered 39 Dove Awards, including an unprecedented 11 consecutive Female Vocalists of the Year awards, five Grammy awards, three platinum records and five gold albums.

Larnelle Harris, one of the great figures in modern gospel music, will make a guest appearance during the show. During his more than two decades of recording, he has received five Grammys and 10 Dove Awards, and made numerous network TV appearances.

"I wouldn't even cross the street to sing a song just for it's own sake," said Harrris. "I want to sing songs that change people's lives."
