Westminster College Singers to Perform at Saxonburg Presbyterian Church

The Westminster College Concert Choir, Chorale, and Madrigal Singers will perform "The Festival of Christmas: A Time of Joy" at the Saxonburg Presbyterian Church Friday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m.

The holiday concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin with the Madrigal Singers performing such songs as "I Saw Three Ships," "The Holly and the Ivy," and "The Christmas Song," under the direction of Dr. Robin A. Lind, director of choral activities at Westminster College.

The Westminster College Chorale, under the direction of Donald J. Rasely, will continue the program with "Chanticleer," "Christmas Lullaby," and "Kyrie," followed by a solo performance of "O Holy Night" by contralto Donna Macurdy, a sophomore music education major from Cabot.

The Concert Choir will perform such numbers as "Carol of the Bells," "Ave Maria," and "Masters in the Hall," with a solo by D. J. Zaccari, a junior music education major from Greensburg.

The combined choirs will sing Christmas Carols with the audience during the concert.

The combined choirs will offer a variety of songs including "I Wonder as I Wander" with soloists Sarah Schmidl, a junior mathematics major from Webster, N.Y.; "Go Tell It on the Mountain" with soloists Sara Kimbell, a freshman music performance major from Gibsonia, Matt Newman, a senior music education major from Salem, Ohio, Stanley Rothrock, a senior music education major from Yeagertown, and Heidi Langdon, a junior elementary education major from Lower Burrell. The combined choirs will end the concert with Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus."

Lind, who joined the Westminster College faculty this year, serves not only as the director of choral activities, but also as assistant professor of music. She earned her undergraduate degree from Albertsons College of Idaho, her master's from the University of Oregon, and her Ph.D. from the University of Utah.

Rasely, earned his undergraduate and master's degrees from Youngstown State University.
